Stylish Boutique Hotel in the Heart of Athens

A neoclassical townhouse dating back to 1880, set in a culture-rich neighbourhood of Athens, has recently been turned into one of the city’s most stylish boutique hotels.

Built in the early 20th century, and sitting in the heart of Athens, in the upmarket Kolonaki quarter, Monsieur Didot is a beautifully renovated house providing guests with a ‘home-from-home’ feel; its mix of rooms and suites are spacious and luxurious, and interiors are a blend of modern architecture and contemporary aesthetics.

With attention to detail and an emphasis on authenticity, the hotel is ideal for those that love an old-world charm feel. Here travellers will find a genuine living experience and the warmest of hospitality; as spaces are designed to “host everyday stories unique to your being.”

Insights Greece - Stylish Boutique Hotel in the Heart of AthensLocation

One of the hotel’s greatest assets is its location, as it’s set at the border of two extremely different yet genuinely characteristic districts of modern Athens. Kolonaki, an upmarket district on the one side, and Exarchia, a vibrant, hip, and alternative area of the city on the other. Just five minutes from the ‘Panepistimio’ metro station, the hotel is surrounded by theatres, museums, publishing houses, and historic bookstores, as well as countless cafés, bars, restaurants, and boutiques belonging to some of Europe’s largest fashion houses. Monsieur Didot’s house is the perfect setting from which to experience this extraordinary ancient city in all of its historic, cultural and creative glory.

Character & Style

A neutral palette and natural materials set the scene as some of Monsieur Didot’s suites and rooms are home to carved marble fireplaces; imposing bookcases; artwork; handmade ceramics; portraits of influential folk; lush greenery; marble balconies and private verandas that boast impressive city views. Intricately drawn ceilings and walls have been revealed and restored in the hotel’s main entrance, as well as in several guest rooms, whilst secret doors have been introduced to create a touch of mysticism. It also features custom-designed lighting that has been introduced into the building’s fabric, encouraging contrast, and a plurality of textures and shapes. And did we mention the show-stopping staircase?!

Insights Greece - Stylish Boutique Hotel in the Heart of AthensRooms

Featuring four rooms and two suites governed by luxurious simplicity and an overriding feel of elegance, its architectural characteristics take centre stage and subtle references to the “all-time classic” aesthetic of “old Athens,” which shapes the personality of each space. You can book the whole first floor; where three rooms and a communal cozy sitting area at the first floor of the residence are joined and transformed into a private space with the capacity to host a large group of guests.

Food & Drinks

The day always begins with a lavish homemade breakfast, which guests can enjoy in their room or on the rooftop during the summer months. Inspired by the traditional Greek diet, carefully selected organic ingredients from all over the country are transformed into a delicious start to the day. Guests may also opt for a quick snack from the “all day” menu, designed by the hotel’s consultant chef, or have a bottle of wine accompanied with assortments of Greek deli products.

Guests also have the opportunity to experience the art of food and wine pairing with a wine connoisseur, who delights their senses with exquisite flavors and handpicked wines from Greece on Monsieur Didot’s terrace.

Finally, the team of Monsieur Didot has compiled a set of recommendations for the best restaurants, bistros, and cocktail bars in the neighborhood (and there are many of them) and in Athens in general, so guests can avoid tourist traps.

Ideal for…

Monsieur Didot is a friendly place for all kinds of travellers; including couples,  families and small groups of friends (up to 7 people) can book the whole first floor of the residence and privately use the sitting area on that floor.

Larger groups (up to 16 people) can book the whole residence (4 double rooms, 2 suites, an indoor sitting area on the first floor, and an open-air terrace on the second floor).

Facilities

The rooftop features a cozy terrace, where visitors can have their breakfast or coffee on a sunny day, or a drink or glass of wine on warm nights. Boho-chic Hotel Sits on Kastelorizo’s Beautiful Waterfront

A historical waterfront house on the island of Kastelorizo has been converted into a boho-chic hotel by French architect Marie Rivalant. With just seven rooms and a romantic island setting, this is the perfect place for complete escapism.

Kastelorizo made Parisian designer Marie fall in love three times: first with the island itself, then with a man living there and finally with an old, waterfront house. So she moved to the island, married the man, and bought the house.

Location

Insights Greece - Boho-chic Hotel Sits on Kastelorizo's Beautiful Waterfront

Everything about this stunning little island is quiet and peaceful. Surrounded by the jewelled turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea, Kastellorizo allows you to experience authentic island life while enjoying its neo-classic architecture and all its charm. Cobblestone alleys and traditional colourful mansions dot the scenic village and the waterfront is lined with tavernas and café-bars that spoil you for choice. Mediterraneo Kastelorizo Hotel is away from the crowds at night, and by day this side of the bay is also quiet, making it an ideal place to swim in crystal clear water.

Character & Style

Marie decided to turn the house into a little hotel and did so without trying to make an overwhelming design statement. The house was charming enough as it was, so Marie kept its traditional flair but added pops of colour, arty bathrooms and oriental details- giving it a touch of the exotic. Its simple, unpretentious atmosphere is what makes this place special.

Room types

Overall, Marie has created a delightful little haven with seven vibrantly coloured bedrooms, some of which look over the harbour and a sunbathing terrace on the quayside. The rooms are spread over two floors and offer lots of light and a nice breeze as they face the sea, and others have a more oriental feel, with mattresses on a sleeping platform. A gorgeous suite occupies the ground floor that opens out into the azure waters of the Mediterranean. A bathing ladder leads you to your own private infinity pool where you can swim in the stunning turquoise Mediterranean Sea.

Food

A Mediterranean breakfast is a blend of Greek, French and Turkish delicacies including yoghurt, nuts, homemade preserves, cheese and freshly baked bread; this is served on the terrace.

Location

Insights Greece - Spetses’ 100-Year-Old Grand Hotel

Surrounded by a rich history, it is steps away from where a proud statue of Laskarina Bouboulina, the early 19th-century Greek independence heroine stands. We should mention, very few cars are allowed on the island, so scooters, 4x4s, bicycles, a horse carriage and walking are the best ways to get around. The hotel is close to the old harbour, the Bouboulina Museum and the Hatzigianni Mexi Spetses Museum. The closest beaches are only minutes away too.

The resort, to be constructed in Desfina, is expected to boost luxury tourism to the wider region, which includes destinations such as Delphi, Itea, Galaxidi, and Arachova. Other real estate development projects have also been approved nearby.

This includes the Doric Dune settlement, which has already been designed as a part of the Delphi Golf-Resort and is located in the area of Makranikolas, the southernmost part of the prefecture of Fokida at a distance of 22 kilometres from the Central Hotel unit.

The property boasts short-term accommodation spaces, which will operate all year round. It is aimed at visitors who want to experience the uniqueness of the natural landscape of Dorida, which boasts great views of the Corinthian Gulf.

The spaces are designed with relaxation and meditation in mind, and are located in a quiet and remote spot, 18 kilometres from the nearest settlement.

In the first phase of the design, four subterranean “cave” like spaces have been built, (from the proposed 16 in total) with the main inspiration being the Corinthian Gulf.

Two semi-roofed communal pools will allow guests to enjoy a swim all year round, regardless of the weather.

Each unit is around 60 sqm and can accommodate up to five people. The materials, style, and decor are fresh and raw and the approach has a clear reference to Doric motifs; featuring limestone, colourful clay plaster, and whitish cement mortar- the space has a real earthy and natural look/ feel about it.

The prefecture of Fokida is centrally located in Central Greece. It is a green mountainous area, on the Corinthian Gulf with several small beaches. The most famous destination in Fokida is Delphi

Domes also brings a duo of gourmet restaurants, a beachfront spa, and classic island experiences to the table, including cookery and ceramics classes, wine tastings, and coastal hikes. Step Inside Patras’ New Luxury Boutique Hotel

In the city of Patras, a stunning classical building has now become a new luxury 5-star hotel.

Opening its doors in May of 2020, The Bold Type Hotel is located in the historic district of Ano Polis, near the Medieval Castle and Roman Odeon- two historical monuments of Greece.

The initial construction of the listed building was created in three phases. The first was in the late 1800s, the second at the beginning of the last century and the last phase concerning most of the building took place in the early 1910s. The completion of the third phase gave the building its unique architecture.

Empi Spathi and Katerina Liarommati are the talented architects who recently converted the property into a luxurious hotel. Respecting its original character, the architects took a lot of care and consideration in restoring its raw design- while introducing modern elements that blend in beautifully with its previous construction.

“The philosophy is based on personalised hospitality and our goal is to connect with each visitor and offer him the authentic hospitality that is culturally rooted within us. Our goal is to transmit the local culture to the visitor by exploring the vibrant neighbourhoods and the urban streets of the city and to connect with the local community,” says management.

The four-floor hotel has a total of 10 rooms and suites and there is a colour scheme on each level- designed to enhance the historical building. The first floor is filled with green- combining the wild plantation of the garden area with the Garden Suite. On the second floor, there are red tones- used to blend in nicely with the stones of the ancient Conservatory and the Atelier rooms. Whereas the third floor is dominated by rich shades of blue- to unite the sky and the memory of the building with the executive rooms and the Bold Type suite.

On the 4th floor is the Roof View, with prime position facing the Fortress, the Ancient Roman Conservatory, as well as the Gulf of Patras. And at the back of the hotel you will find a magnificent courtyard, which has been transformed into a fine dining restaurant. Run by talented chef Giannis Skentzos, it’s an ideal spot for brunch, late lunch or dinner.

Last but definitely not least, there is a charming hotel garden, which dates back to 1922, and in the centre of the open space you will find a water feature surrounding the tallest palm tree in the city- it’s adored by locals and visitors alike who enjoy sitting here sipping on a cocktail.
