The NEST Collective, a Nairobi-based art group, has created an installation “Return to Sender” addressing the important issue of textile waste and the consequences of fast fashion.  The project, commissioned by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and the National Museum of Contemporary Art Athens explores the impact of second-hand textile waste in Kenya and Africa. The project aims to highlight the importance of dialogue while examining key issues of our times, including democracy, governance, equity, economics, the environment, and the effects of globalisation.

Neos Kosmos Stegi Block Party 2023

Are you in Athens around September 26th? If you are, there’s an invitation waiting for you. Stegi’s annual Block Party is happening in the cool neighbourhood of Neos Kosmos. There will be live concerts, DJ sets, performances, queer extravaganzas, and free beer. Stegi’s new artistic program focuses on social issues and features local and international artists. The season starts with Dimitris Karantzas’ new work, The House- which is his first original piece in twelve years!

Jo Nesbo in Athens

One of the most notable Nordic Noir writers is Jo Nesbo, a Norwegian author who has achieved international fame in the realm of crime and mystery fiction. His creation, the unrelenting detective “Harry Hole”, has become a fan favourite, alongside the likes of Agatha Christie’s “Hercule Poirot” and James Patterson’s “Alex Cross”. The Olympia Theatre will host an exceptional event dedicated to Nesbo, whose best-selling book The Snowman is a worldwide hit. During the event, he will discuss his creative process, promote his latest work called Killing Moon, and greet his readers, while inspiring them.

Classic Rock at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus

Sixty classic musicians, rock icons and an amazing electric band are set to take Athens on a magical rock journey under the Acropolis! Classic Rock 7 returns to Herodion for a sixth consecutive year with remarkable ambassadors of the original rock sound, a string orchestra and the greatest rock hits. Among this year’s guests are notable artists like Justin Hayward the unsurpassed voice of Moody Blues, Maggie Reilly the lead voice of Mike Oldfield’s Band and the legend Dave Evans co-founder of AC/DC. The experience takes off with the powerful symphonic sound of the electric band of the Athens State Orchestra.

Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of Balance

The emblematic “Koyaanisqatsi: Life out of Balance,” described as a landmark project in the history of the seventh art, will now be presented in its entirety at the Οdeon of Herodes Atticus. A dystopian, pioneering film of its time, it’s first presentation was in 1984 and to help celebrate 40 years since its realease, it will be shown on a huge screen at the Herodeo, alongside a live performance of the films’ soundtrack by Philip Glass. Koyanniqatsi is a form of “silent cinema” but manages to “speak loudly” with its striking content, music and images. The cinematic masterpiece by visionary director Godfrey Reggio deals with the alienation of humans, and the destruction of nature- making it more relevant than ever.

International Rudimental Drumming & Marching Bands Music Festival

Athens attracts marching bands from all corners of the world this month with the International Rudimental Drumming & Marching Bands Music Festival. The city is set to welcome an array of military bands, philharmonic bands, traditional bands, samba percussionists, fife and drum groups, drumlines from many European countries and the United States, as well as from throughout Greece. The festival’s core is rudimental drumming, which involves the study of basic drumming patterns that function as the foundation for a variety of sequences.

Greece Race for the Cure

The Greece Race for the Cure is a symbolic annual event and walk against breast cancer, and it returns this Sunday, October 1, 2023. You can participate if you love running, if you like walking, and above all if you want to contribute to the fight against breast cancer. Ultimately, the Greece Race for the Cure is an event for everyone and aims to highlight the fact that by uniting and supporting each other we are able to beat this disease.
