Discover the best places to eat and drink in Spetses in 2026, from waterfront restaurants and traditional taverns to stylish cocktail bars and local favourites across the island.
Just two hours from Athens by ferry, Spetses remains one of the Saronic Gulf’s most stunning islands. Known for its grand captains’ mansions, pine-covered landscapes and long maritime history, it offers a different experience to many of Greece’s better-known destinations. Cars are largely absent, horse-drawn carriages still pass through the waterfront, and much of the island is best explored on foot, by bicycle or from the sea.
Food has always played an important role in island life here- from family-run taverns and long-established seafood restaurants to elegant harbour front dining spots and bars that fill as the sun goes down, Spetses offers no shortage of good places to eat and drink. Some have been welcoming the same guests for decades, while others have recently helped shape the island’s more contemporary side.
Whether you are visiting for a few days or returning for another summer, these are the places we recommend experiencing while spending time in Spetses.

Where to Eat in Spetses
To Pachni
If you are craving grilled meat while in Spetses, make a reservation at To Pachni. This casual local taverna has built a loyal following thanks to its outstanding lamb cutlets and some of our favourite tzatziki on the island. The menu focuses on classic Greek grilled dishes, all cooked traditionally. Set beneath the trees with simple outdoor seating, it feels a world away from the waterfront crowds.
Patralis
Serving locals and visitors since 1935, this traditional fish taverna remains one of the island’s most enduring dining spots. Their signature salad, mussels, grilled shrimps and squid dishes are all favourites, while daily specials often include classic Greek dishes such as moussaka, and slow-cooked lamb. Seafood lovers should not miss the sea urchin salad or the restaurant’s famous squid pasta.
Tarsanas
Located in the Old Harbour, Tarsanas is one of our favourite spots for seafood in Spetses. The menu celebrates the day’s catch with dishes that allow the ingredients to take centre stage, from fresh seabass ceviche to seafood pasta and beautifully grilled fish. The taramasalata is a standout and the sea salt crust fish has become one of the restaurant’s signature dishes. There is also an excellent kakavia (traditional fisherman’s soup) alongside octopus marinated in olive oil and vinegar. Sitting beside the water with fishing boats gently bobbing nearby only adds to the experience.

Kapelogiannis
Also located in the Old Harbour, Kapelogiannis offers a more contemporary take on Greek cuisine while remaining firmly connected to local ingredients and traditions. Tables are set right beside the sea, making it a wonderful spot for dinner on a warm summer evening. The menu features dishes such as shrimp saganaki, octopus, ceviche and risotto, alongside beautifully prepared grilled fish and seasonal specials.
Bostani by Poseidonion
For a dining experience away from the harbour, Bostani by Poseidonion offers one of the island’s most gorgeous settings. Surrounded by olive trees, herbs and vegetable gardens, this open-air restaurant embraces a farm-to-table philosophy, with much of the produce sourced directly from the surrounding grounds. The menu draws inspiration from traditional Greek cooking, focusing on seasonal ingredients and simple flavours that allow the produce to take centre stage.
Mourayo
Set along the waterfront in the Old Harbour, Mourayo combines excellent food with a lively atmosphere that draws both locals and visitors. The menu balances traditional Greek dishes with contemporary Mediterranean influences, alongside fresh seafood, quality meat dishes and several vegetarian options. Favourites include the veal tagliata, salmon kebab, fish à la Spetsiota, aubergine rolls and grilled octopus.
Doroufi
For something a little different, make the short boat journey across to Doroufi for lunch. Located on the mainland, this waterside taverna sits beside the calm waters of Doroufi Bay, with views stretching towards the Argolic mountains. The trip takes you past secluded coves and crystal-clear swimming spots, making the journey just as memorable as the destination itself. The menu focuses on fresh seafood and traditional Greek dishes, served just metres from the water’s edge.

Best Dessert in Spetses
Vanilia
Located in the centre of town, Vanilia is one of the best places on the island to sample Spetses’ famous amigdalota. Made with almonds and scented with rosewater, these traditional sweets have long been associated with the island and remain a favourite among both locals and visitors. Alongside the amigdalota, you’ll find a tempting selection of handmade chocolates, pastries and ice cream.
Klimis Café
A Spetses institution, Klimis Café has been serving locals and visitors since 1940. This family-run patisserie is particularly well known for its traditional Greek sweets, including sokolatina, galaktoboureko, ekmek and its signature voutiki. Shaded tables and a constant sea breeze make it a lovely place to pause for a coffee and something sweet, especially during the warmer months.
Tiramisu
For those looking beyond traditional Greek desserts, Tiramisu offers a tempting selection of pastries and sweet treats. The mille-feuille is a standout, with crisp layers of pastry and generous pastry cream, while the tiramisu has developed a loyal following of its own. The café also caters well to those seeking vegan options, with several plant-based desserts available throughout the season.

Where to Drink in Spetses
Bikini Bar
One of the island’s most popular spots for evening drinks, Bikini Bar attracts a lively mix of locals, and visitors throughout the summer. The cocktail list is extensive, featuring everything from classic favourites to creative seasonal creations. During the peak season, guest DJs regularly take over the decks. Tip: arrive before sunset if you want to secure one of the best seats.
Spetsa Bar
A long-standing favourite on the island, Spetsa Bar has built its reputation on character with vintage band posters, old photographs and music memorabilia lining the walls. The drinks menu covers all the essentials, from cocktails and spirits to local wines and beers.
To Kafeneio
For a more traditional experience, head to To Kafeneio- part kafeneio and part ouzeri, it offers a glimpse into a slower, more old-school side of island life. Tables spill out onto the street, where locals gather throughout the day for coffee, conversation and small plates to accompany a glass of ouzo or tsipouro.
