Dior Through the Lens of Greek Photographers

French luxury house Dior invited 10 talented Greek photographers to capture their visions of the Grecian-inspired Cruise 2022 Collection at different locations throughout Greece, and the result is spectacular.

Mara Desipris, Christina Dimitriadis, Marilia Fotopoulou, Efi Gousi, Maria Koutroumpi, Dimitra Lazaridou, Ria Mort, Lia Nalbantidou, Ioanna Sakellaraki, and Olga Stefatou were all part of this artistic dialogue that “further perpetuates the spirit and power of Maria Grazia Chiuri’s creations for Dior, conceived as a celebration of local craftsmanship and savoir-faire. Discover the captivating beauty of these virtuoso interpretations,” announced Dior.

Collaborating with Grecian artisans and artists to realise the collection, Dior’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri has truly celebrated Greece for Dior Cruise 2022, which she described as a “tribute to the idea of community and a celebration of cultural exchanges.”

Dior arrived in Athens for its Cruise 2022 womenswear show in June this year and presented the collection and capsule at the awe-inspiring Panathenaic Stadium, the only stadium entirely built of Pentelic marble; while the Cruise 2022 campaign was shot by leading fashion photographer Julia Hetta at the Temple of Zeus on the Ancient Greek archaeological site of Nemea.

The luxury fashion house has now released the latest images taken by each Greek photographer- giving a new perspective to the pieces, which are all inspired by Ancient Greek sites, temples, and costumes. The photos are featured in the latest issue of Dior Magazine- Issue NO. 36.

Dior Shoots New Sneaker Campaign at Historic Greek Landmark

Stunning new images have been released of Dior’s Cruise 2022 sneaker campaign- shot against the backdrop of Greece’s historic landmark- the Temple of Zeus in Nemea.

Showcasing the brand’s latest Dior Vibe sneaker range, the campaign highlights the contemporary sports shoe collection that has been designed by creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, “combining a running shoe spirit with fashionable details, with a play of materials enhanced by gold or silver inserts. The D-Zenith merges the streamlined elegance of heels with the comfort of lace-up leather sneakers,” states Dior.

Dior’s entire 2022 Cruise Collection was unveiled at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens in June this year. It was the ideal place to showcase the modern pieces that are inspired by Ancient Greek sites, temples, and costumes; and as a whole focus on rethinking the purpose of fashion.

In this collection, Chiuri has ventured into uncharted territory- showcasing a modern series of sneaker designs, which were paired not only with casual outfits but also with a series of Grecian-inspired evening dresses.

Using a classic running sneaker shape, the footwear features metallic accents and matches the hues of their ready-to-wear garments- including a range of Hellenic-blue and white print t-shirts, pants, shorts, and sports socks adorned with the name “Christian Dior”, the refined signature of these new pieces.

Dior’s Cruise ’22 Show Pays Homage to Ancient Greece

Dior’s highly-anticipated Cruise 2022 presentation in the Greek Capital was nothing short of a high-end fashion extravaganza, as Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri created a stylish spectacle that took place overnight at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.

The famous stadium, which is home to the modern Olympics served as the stunning backdrop to showcase a modern collection inspired by Ancient Greece.

Around 500 guests, including many celebrities, artists, and designers, witnessed a runway show that “blended the power of heritage and contemporary inventiveness,” Dior announced to the fashion press.

One of the key inspirations of the collection was the peplos robe worn by ancient Greek women. “The peplos also is an element that allows the body to move freely, that evokes women in movement, and no one more than an athlete moves their body in a really active way,” says Chiuri.

Leading up to last night’s event, Chiuri spent time visiting numerous spots around Greece for research and inspiration; including the expansive Bronze Age ruins of the palace of Knossos and the Heraklion Archeological Museum on Crete. “Here, in a place so often associated with the myth of the Minotaur,
she uncovered the importance of women in religion, venerated as representations of animals and nature,” Dior announced.

She also headed to Santorini to the ruins of Akrotiri and on the third leg of her journey, Chiuri also spent time on the archaeological site of Delphi

According to Dior, the choice of venue, “creating a prodigious bridge between sport and culture, ancient heritage and contemporary youth, is highly symbolic for Grazia Chiuri, notably through its connections to the body and the freedom of movement she cherishes, but also through the motifs that inform the collection and its sportswear spirit.”

The Panathenaic Stadium was adorned with flags specially created by Italian artist Pietro Ruffo; the illuminated scenography also paid tribute to the architectural lines of the site.
