The Hilton Hotel in Athens officially closed its doors yesterday, January 31, 2022, to undergo a complete makeover and will reopen in 2024, as a new luxury Conrad Hotel.
Athens’ Hilton has been a classic choice for many travellers to the Greek capital, ever since it first opened as one of the city’s most impressive hotels in 1963- having been the first-ever chain hotel in the Greek capital. Since then it has welcomed A list of celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Igmar Bergman and Anthony Quinn, as well as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Plácido Domingo, the International Olympic Committee during the 2004 Games and many more VIPs. With breathtaking views of the Acropolis, the famous Galaxy rooftop bar/ restaurant, and a popular swimming pool lined by palm trees- it’s been adored by local and international guests alike.
According to an announcement by the owner company Ionian Hotel, the 130 million euros renovation will transform the property into a multidimensional destination as it aspires to contribute to the emergence of Athens as a top choice in Europe, for international and local guests.
The new reconstruction of the building complex will include 280 stylish rooms and suites, alongside 50 luxury homes, which will operate under the brands Conrad Residences and Waldorf Astoria Residences of Hilton.
Complete renovation of the top floor will feature gastronomic and lifestyle experiences for guests, and there will also be an expansion next to the pool area, which was included in the original design of the 1960s. The new complex will also include new commercial spaces, entertainment venues, wellness facilities, and a members-only club.
